She Said The Darnedest Things With A Straight Face [A Story]

My name is Ray, and I'm a babysitter to a little girl named Mia. I've known her for quite some time now, but I'm still shocked about her recent confession.

We were playing truth or dare together. When it was my turn, I asked her this: "What's your biggest secret, Mia?" I expected something silly from her, like hiding candy under her bed or pretending to brush her teeth when she didn’t.

Mia tilted her head, thought for a moment, and then, with the seriousness of someone confessing to a crime, said, "Sometimes, when you're not looking, I rearrange your stuff so you think you're losing your memory."

I blinked, stunned. "Wait what?"

She leaned closer, her big eyes filled with innocence that only made her words more chilling. "Like your keys. I put them in the fridge last week. And your phone? I put it under the couch cushion. You thought you were going crazy, but it was just me."

I stared at her, speechless. "Mia, why would you do that?"

She shrugged nonchalantly. "I like to see the look on your face when you mutter, 'I'm losing it.' It’s funny. You make this weird noise—like, 'Ughhh.' It's my favorite sound."

I didn’t know whether to laugh or start keeping a diary of where I put my belongings. But before I could respond, she smiled sweetly and added, "Wanna play another round?"
